RSUs, ESPP & Stock Options
“I had RSUs vest and my paystub looks wrong, was the tax already taken out?”
When RSUs vest, the paystub can look confusing because the taxable income is often shown separately from the cash actually received. The withholding that appears may reflect federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare, and sometimes state or local tax, but the exact treatment depends on the employer’s payroll setup, the vesting date, and whether shares were sold to cover taxes. It is also common for the gross vest value, the net shares delivered, and the withholding entries to appear in different places on the stub, which can make it seem like something is missing. Sitting down with a CPA for thirty minutes is usually enough to draw a clean line on this.
In your 60-minute session, the KGOB advisor handling it will:
- Read your exact situation and tell you, in plain English, what’s actually going on.
- Lay out your options and the trade-offs — no jargon, no judgment.
- Give you a clear next step you can act on, whether that’s with us or on your own.
