On December 22, 2023, Governor Hochul signed the New York LLC Transparency Act (Chapter 772 of the Laws of 2023). ¹ The Act was amended once, by S.8059 on March 1, 2024, to remove its original public-disclosure feature. ² It is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026, which is to say, within weeks of this writing. After two years of legislative drama, the practical scope on day one is much narrower than the law was designed to cover.
