NC tax filings we routinely handle

Form D-400 (individual income tax), Form CD-405 (C corporation tax), Form CD-401S (S corporation), Form D-403 (partnership), Form D-407 (trust and estate), NC PTE elections, multi-state apportionment for businesses operating in NC plus other states, and SUTA / unemployment-insurance compliance.

The NC PTE election

North Carolina permits pass-through entities to elect to be taxed at the entity level, with the federal tax deduction passing through to owners. Whether the election makes sense depends on the entity's gross-income profile, owner residency, the post-OBBBA $40,000 SALT cap, and any related-entity considerations. We model the election both ways before filing.

NC personal income tax flat rate

North Carolina applies a 4.5% flat rate on taxable income for tax years 2024 and 2025, scheduled to decrease to 4.25% in 2026 and 3.99% in 2027 per N.C.G.S. 105-153.7. The state allows the federal standard deduction and a separate state standard deduction; itemizers must follow state-specific rules.

Frequently Asked

North Carolina questions, answered.

What NC counties does KGOB serve?

All 100 counties. Our four offices anchor service in Mecklenburg, Forsyth, Iredell, and surrounding counties, with remote service for the remainder of the state.

Is KGOB a North Carolina licensed CPA firm?

Yes. KGOB partners are licensed as Certified Public Accountants by the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners. The firm is licensed to practice public accounting in North Carolina and registered with the State Board.

Do you handle NC sales-and-use tax for online sellers?

Yes. North Carolina applies sales-and-use tax to most tangible personal property and many services. Economic-nexus rules under N.C.G.S. 105-164.8(b) trigger registration for out-of-state sellers above $100,000 in NC sales or 200 NC transactions in a calendar year (the pre-Wayfair federal threshold). We register, file, and remit for clients in this position.
